A MEMORIAL TO FRANK C. LaMONT
Paul,
Another of your shipmates has passed. My father left for his eternal cruise in June of this year. A Destroyer, Dad's second choice to sail on after the Oakland, left San Diego a few weeks ago and delivered him to his new duty station. He was extremely proud of the time he served aboard the Oakland. I'm sure he would like to say farewell to the remaining crew. Sincerely, Frank C. LaMont Jr. ![]() My parents met during the war at
Yosemite of all places. The Navy sent him to the Awhanee hotel to recover after
surgery and Mom was at there one day with the Caravan girls, visiting with the servicemen
home on leave. Dad said that his roommate "Red" returned to their room and said there
was a beautiful blonde downstairs dancing with a
guy with a broken leg and that dad should get down there and rescue her. Well it's obvious he took Red's advice. The rest is history.
In addition
to his achievements in the
USN,
He and mom are members of Modesto Covenant Church, He was a member of Aahmes Shrine A past master of the Consistory of Stockton Scottish Rite of California A 50 year member of Modesto Masonic Lodge 675. Dad 's spirit of
giving didn't end
with military service.
He went on
to teach Sunday school, he
mentored many new
Masonic candidates and enjoyed working with the Shiners,
dressing up as
a keystone cop to visit patients at the Shrine Children's Hospital.
