The early morning of
September 22,
1998 marked the end of a seventy-five year
journey through life for a man I wish everyone could have known. A
devoted husband
to his wife Eileen for 25 years, Ken loved his family. He took pleasure
in life through his catering business and
the café he ran which had such a good reputation
here in Billings, MT. Most of all he loved to fish with his grandson and
I have many memories to
take with
me because of it. He taught me how to fish
and
play "pitch" (a card game), but more importantly he taught me the value
of relationships with family and others.
Ken
was an avid storyteller and loved to answer
all my questions about his time onboard the U.S.S. Oakland CL-95. He
was
an original crewman, a "plank-owner". The only thing in life he loved
to
do more than the restaurant business
would
have been the Navy. The USN instilled
a certain pride in him that
stayed
with him his entire life. For a man that gave so much
of his time here on earth to his family and his country, I hope that
now
he can have a reunion with some of his
shipmates
and family who have left us
already. I
know
he deserves it. Services were held on the 25th followed by the internment
with military honors at Rockvale cemetery, Rockvale MT.
