George A. Schlamersdorf

Sept. 1, 1991

My husband's uncle served on the USS Oakland from Nov. 1944 to August 1945. His name was George Albert Schlamersdorf, mainly know as Ab.  He died Sept. 1, 1991 in Elkhart, Indiana, was originally from Vincennes, Indiana.

According to some papers I recently found, his title was Ship's secretary, duties
were: in charge of Captain's Office, junior division officer, coding, and censor.
Battle Station was coding room.  The rank shown on these papers was Lieutenant
(jg).

Before serving on the Oakland, he was stationed at the following: NAAS Camp
Kearney, SanDiego, California;  6th Naval Construction Battalion (Seabees);
NCTC, Norfolk, Virginia (Naval Construction Training Center); his recruit training
started at NTS, Great Lakes, Illinois.   All assignments were connected with office
work.

Ab never married, retired from the IRS, and spent the last ten years of his life
living with his brother, Norman (My husband's father), who also served in the
Navy during WW 2.  Would appreciate if you would add him to the deceased
roster.

Regards,
Dawn Schlamersdorf (niece-in-law)
John Schlamersdord (nephew)
