DID JESUS DIE FOR THE WHOLE WORLD?

The following question was ask by Charity, a student attending college in Wisconsin. Here is my answer to her.

Dear Pastor Purkey:

"I just wondered what you thought about this question. Do you believe that Jesus died for the entire world or just for the elect? This is probably something that you can't answer in just a few sentences but if you have any verses, sermons, material, etc. let me know...."

Dear Charity:

YES!!! Jesus died for the entire world (John 1:11-13) (John 3:16, 36; 5:24) (Romans 10:13-15). That is why Jesus gave the church (made up of PEOPLE) the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) (Mark 16:15-18) (Luke 24:46-48) (Acts 1:8).

YES!!! Jesus died for the entire world!!! At Temple Baptist Seminary in Chattanooga (and the Bible teaches this), I was taught: "Jesus' death is sufficient for the whole world, but Jesus' death is efficient to only those who believe." (See John 3:16)

Jesus' death is sufficient for the whole world: "For God so loved the WORLD, that he gave his only begotten Son..."

Jesus' death is efficient to only those who believe: "...that whosoever BELIEVETH in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
