| The design of a QBC stud lends it the capability to act more like a wooden stud than a steel stud. By isolating two pieces of metal with a thin layer of adhesive the metal cannot transmit sound or energy as it normally would. | ||
|
Acoustical
According to studies performed at Purdue University, transmission loss in a wall using QBC studs is several decibels higher than that of a standard wall in the mid frequency range (around 1000 hz). Since the speech range is approximately 500 - 2000 hz, a QBC wall should be more effective at speech isolation than a standard wall. |
||
| Thermal
The adhesive layer joining the two components of a QBC stud acts as a thermal barrier. This enables a QBC stud to be warm on one side and cool on the other with no harmful effects. In a standard wall, this kind of temperature difference creates condensation than can be damaging to the wall itself. *Note: The adhesive used to join the components of the QBC stud will not support a flame and is self-extinguishing within 10 seconds. |
