Daniel has been the executive director of Hope Hospice since April 14, 2007. After completing two years of study at Indiana University Kokomo, (Kokomo, Indiana) he worked 16 years for Biomet, Inc. (Warsaw, Indiana.) At Biomet he was a developing engineer for 5 systems, a certified public speaker, a certified professional writer, and worked with FDA regulations daily. Daniel designed product brochures, was a design team leader, worked daily with surgeons, and communicated with the sales force. He understands deadlines for projects, and is detailed oriented.

 

In 2000 Daniel started and presently is the director of the Grouchy Bear Foundation, marketed the GBF foundation, designed brochures, served as a public speaker for the Grouchy Bear Foundation and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, played semi- pro football for 12 years, coached 4 years of semi-pro football (2002-2006), owned a semi-pro football team in Michigan for 2 years, was inducted into the Interstate Football Hall of Fame in 2004, and has coached in the Rochester (Indiana) school system since 2005.

Brenda Purkey, a registered nurse and one of the original directors, has served on the Hope Hospice Board of Directors since April 14, 1995. Brenda served as a volunteer before joining the Hope Hospice staff. She holds a degree in nursing from Indiana University in Kokomo, Indiana where she earned the “Outstanding Nursing Student Award.” A skilled and an experienced hospice nurse, Brenda has a sweet Christian spirit and a heart for hospice.

 

In April 2007 Brenda received national certification as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses (NBCHPN) based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The CHPN designation is considered a prestigious title in the field of nursing. Purkey passed a written examination consisting of 150 questions covering seven areas of nursing practice. The main focus of the exam was on the hospice and palliative care nursing specialty.
