2007 Volunteers and Staff Christmas Luncheon

On Monday, December 10th during a noon luncheon at Townsend’s Manitou Banquet Center in Rochester, Brenda Purkey, RN, CHPN was selected by the volunteers and staff of Hope Hospice to receive the 2008 Hospice Service Award.

 

 

Brenda Purkey is a registered nurse and has served on the Hope Hospice Board of Directors since April 14, 1995. She served as a volunteer before joining the Hope Hospice staff. Today Brenda Purkey is the Vice-president of the Hope Hospice Board of Directors and is the Patient Care Director.

 

 

Brenda Purkey holds an Associate Degree in Nursing from Indiana University in Kokomo where she earned the “Outstanding Nursing Student Award.” In April 2007 she received national certification as a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN) by the National Board for Certification of Hospice and Palliative Nurses based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

 

 

For the past ten years the Hospice Service Award has been given to a Hope Hospice volunteer, staff member, or other individual or organization that has given help and encouragement to Hope Hospice.

 

 

The previous winners of the Hospice Service Award are: 1998 Alan Bailey, 1999 Sarah Purkey, 2000 Dr. Michael Brubaker, 2001 Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 2002 Pete Terpstra, 2003 Jan Stayton, 2004 Carol Brazo, 2005 Joe Williams, 2006 Rev. Ronald Purkey, and 2007 Linda England.
