The 2007 “Walk the Walk” Event Is Over

The first annual “Walk the Walk for Hope Hospice” event was held on Saturday September 29th. It was a wonderful time for visiting with the Hope Hospice staff and raising awareness for hospice in Fulton County. We will have more information about the “Walk the Walk for Hope Hospice” event in the November newsletter. To everyone who had a part, we say "thank you.”

Bereavement Support Group

Anyone who has suffered the death of a loved one is invited to meet with the Hope Hospice Bereavement Support Group on Thursday, October 18th at 7:00 pm at the Hope Hospice office, 420 Main Street in Rochester.

The video Heaven’s Not a Crying Place by Joey O'Connor will be shown. The video will help you understand why it is so important to deal with your child's questions about life, death, and heaven in a sensitive and compassionate way.

The Hope Hospice Bereavement Support Group meets the third Thursday of every month at 7:00 pm. and is free of charge to those attending. The public is cordially invited to participate.

Spotlighting Hope Hospice

Hope Hospice has a compassionate, patient-centered approach to medical care and support for people at the end of life and their families. Our care is focused on maintaining dignity, increasing quality of life, and providing comfort, including pain and symptom control. Hope Hospice recognizes that every person's experience will be different and the hospice team creates a plan of care according to the individual needs and wishes of each patient.

Hope Hospice staff members are available at all times, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is the mission of our staff to walk side-by-side with patients and offer support, not only for any physical symptoms, but for emotional and spiritual needs, as well. This support extends to family members, and Hope Hospice helps them cope with their own unique emotional and spiritual concerns.

Some Hope Hospice Services

Through a team of healthcare professionals, Hope Hospice provides:

·        Medications and other methods of pain and symptom control for a terminal illness.

·        Medical equipment and supplies necessary to promote comfort at home or in other hospice settings.

·        Assistance with personal care and activities of daily living.

·        Medical care focused on maintaining patient comfort, including frequent assessment and help for family members.

·        Coordination of community resources and help to the patient and family with non-medical concerns. We can help family members mend damaged relationships, plan for the future and ease other emotional difficulties.

·        Help coping with spiritual questions and concerns at the end of life, either directly or by coordinating services with the patient's and family's spiritual advisors.

·        Bereavement services to help patients and families deal with grief. Grief support services continue for 13 months after the death of a hospice patient.

·        Volunteers to provide companionship and emotional support and offer help in many different ways.

The Hope Hospice’s concept is one of care. Hospice services are provided wherever you call home: your family residence, a nursing home, an assisted living facility, or wherever you call home. It is truly about meeting patients where they are -- with the care that is right for them.  For more information, contact Brenda Purkey, RN, CHPN at (574) 224-4673 or email her at hospice@rtcol.com.  She will answer all your questions.
