I DEDICATE THIS MEMORIAL TO JOSEPH S. VELARDI

I created this Memorial for his parents, his brothers and sisters and their children, grand-children and all the members of the Velardi Family.

Acknowledgements

I am sorry that I don't know their names but maybe one of these days a relative will see this and we can give them the proper honors.

This rose is for you Marcia

I am happy to report the day has arrived. We have located relatives of Joseph thanks to Marcia (Santora) Pearsall, Joseph's great-niece.

I would like to thank Marcia (Santora) Pearsall, Joseph's great-niece. The Memorial would never have been completed without the wonderful help from her. She found this website and sent me the e-mail that made my day about Joseph.

I was hoping and praying that Joseph Velardi's relatives would be found for the 55th Decommissing ceremony. With the help of Marcia (Santora) Pearsall and a little guidance from above they were located.

(lost at sea) 15 July 1944

This was a sad day for the crew of the USS Oakland. Operating in the vicinity of guam, softening defenses for the landings that were to follow. the ship suffered her first personnel casualty when a man accidentally fell overboard and was lost at sea.

You made my grandparent's trip very special. My grandparent's love you all. They said that when they met you, it was like they knew you their whole lives. You have friends in New York. IF you ever plan a trip here, you are welcomed in our home.

My grandmother said it was a very emotional trip, it was as if she finally went to Joseph's funeral. She got her closure and United States Flag, 55 years later.
